Ageing decreases skin elasticity which causes the brow to droop and gives the face an old and tired look
Brow lift surgery is often performed on those people who wish to rejuvenate and freshen their facial appearance. As we get older the skin on the face can start to lose elasticity and this can mean that the skin will sag and droop around the eyes, mouth and jaw line.
Brow lift surgery can help to tighten the skin, reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and remove the “hoods” that can appear over the eyes and make them look tired and old.
This surgery is often combined with eye bag removal surgery.
The skin above our eyes can start to droop as we get older, and cause the ‘hood’ effect. This makes eyes look tired and the face look aged. Brow lift surgery is a simple procedure carried out to lift the area directly above the eye, opening it up and making the face look younger. It involves lifting the brow itself and tightening the muscles which have been stretched over time, as well as tightening any loose skin in the area and reducing excess fatty tissue.
It will increase overall self-confidence and self-esteem and leave you looking more youthful and rejuvenated.
It is also beneficial for correcting the asymmetry of the forehead and eyebrows.
This procedure requires an overnight stay in hospital and the recovery is 10 – 14 days. There are two different types of brow lift surgery (open brow lift and endoscopic brow lift).
Brow lift procedure can be combined with other surgical procedures for an overall aesthetic look.
The surgery consists in raising the brows and lifting the eyelids giving a more open, brighter and fresh look. The operation is performed under general anaesthetic and normally takes 1½ -2 hours to complete.
The technique used depends on your facial structure, skin condition and the hairline.
An incision is made from ear to ear, either along or slightly behind the natural hairline.
The forehead skin is teased away from the underlying tissues and the muscles reduced or released. Eyebrows are lifted and the incision is then either stitched or clipped.
This operation normally takes 1½ hours to complete.
This procedure is more refined than the open brow lift. Between 3 – 5 small incisions, each less than 2.5cm long are made in the scalp.
The surgeon inspects the underlying tissues using an endoscope – which is a small flexible tube with a tiny camera at one end – inserted into one of the incisions.
Muscles are then removed and tightened. The eyebrows are lifted and held in place with stitches, or temporary screws behind the hairline. The incisions are either stitched or clipped.
This operation normally takes two hours to complete.
There are many reasons why people choose to have brow lift surgery, but it’s primarily if drooping eyebrows are giving the face a tired or sad appearance and making you look older
Severe cases of drooping brows can affect vision. A fleshy brow, or one that is naturally lined, can sometimes give the face an overly severe or aggressive look.
Here are some of the main benefits that can be derived from a brow lift surgery:
- The forehead is lifted so that there is a more rejuvenated look for the eyebrows and forehead
- The wrinkles on the forehead are minimized
- Asymmetry of the eyebrows and forehead is corrected
- Ability to have a natural facial expression after the surgery
- Increase in self esteem
If you have the following physical characteristics then considering a brow lift may be a good idea
- sagging or a low positioned eyebrows that give you a tired or sad appearance
- frown lines or furrows located across the top of the nose or sometimes between the eyebrows
- deep horizontal creases across the forehead
